Preschool, Forgiveness, and more Crafts!

So with it being a new year and all I've decided to make some changes with the girls that I nanny. We made a "preschool" downstairs. I figured they play down there all morning why not do something constructive instead. So we went to work.

I got a cute calendar from "The Parent Teacher Store" (Amazing store by the way- they have so much stuff and it's all reasonably priced, which I love!) The calendar not only came with the months, the numbers, all the holidays and what not; but it also came with a little chart for what today is yesterday and tomorrow which I love! I also picked up a weather chart for the girls. To make it even more fun I got one that came with a frog that you have to dress so it's ready for the weather. They love it, our frog is a boy and they named him Prince. It's a fairly easy weather chart, just has some describing words about what the weather may be on that day (cloudy, windy, sunny, hot, warm, cool, cold, snowy) I also got color decals for the wall. Eva has some trouble with her colors so we look at them everyday, she pretty much has them all down & that's just after a week! Go Eva!

Our weather station with Prince the frog!
 Our color wall!
Our reading nook. This is also a place where they can go if they need some quiet/chill time.

So we pretty much have a routine down for everyday. I let them watch a show in the morning while Gigi and I eat breakfast. Around 9, after diapers, changing into clothes & doing their hair we head downstairs for "school". We go over our calendar, we sing the days of the week song, then go over what day it is, what yesterday was, and what tomorrow will be. Then we count until we get to the new date that today is, and of course we talk about what month it is. Next we go upstairs and look out the front door to check the weather. Then we head back downstairs and make sure our frog is dressed for the weather. Next we read a book together, and then we go over our colors. The first couple of days we had "color scavenger hunts". The girls had to find toys to match their color on their list, they loved it! We've started to go over some letters, just talking about the sounds that the letter makes and what words start with that letter. By this time they're bored and ready to move around, we'll usually go upstairs and play games or do a craft. By the time all that is done it's time for lunch. I'm loving this warmer weather we've been having because now after lunch we get to go outside and take a nice walk! By the time we get back it's time for naps! I am loving this routine so far, it makes the day go by so much faster. I'm always looking for new ways to "teach" them things. We have so much fun, I love my job!

Doing our craft, this particular day it was playing with their new Play-Doh Santa got them!

These are my girls! Love them all to pieces!

And with a new year brings new realizations. I realize that I really have to start eating better. I can disguise this stomach all I want with cute, flowy, loose tops but it's time to get that tummy flat again. If I'm not pregnant I need to look good damn it. And the way I see it if I focus more on getting healthy I won't be so focused on getting pregnant. I know, I know it will come. I also realize that I need to let some things go. It's hard to talk about on hear without giving away details & without people figuring out what I'm talking about. Some things I realize I need to not make "public" so to speak, and this is not something that I think would go over well if I were to share it with the world. I think some people would be hurt and/or upset with me so I'll keep it to myself. But on the subject of forgiveness, I know there are some people I need to forgive. I know that until I do so there will be a weight in my heart, it may not be that heavy but I know that it's there and it's time to let it go. I think the best thing to do would be to write a letter. Writing is a way for me to get everything out, when it goes on paper I feel like it's really out there; it's come off of me and is now on the paper. So with that said, that is what I will do. It feels good just making a plan. I feel like writing on this blog with make me accountable. So that's that.

And yes you read right, more crafts! I forgot about a home-made Christmas gift! I know you're probably thinking "Oh great?! Another one?!" But seriously I love it so I had to share. But I can not take all the credit! I found an awesome YouTube tutorial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65y0oVP26Po or you can type in DIY Straight Knot Necklace into the search part) if you want to try it definitely give it a watch because I don't think I could do a good job of explaining how you actually put it together so check that video out! Also it probably cost me about $16 to make. The only reason it cost this much is because you have to by the clasps, the little key rings in a pack. If you could get them one at a time it'd probably cost you like fifty cents, if that! For the fabric I just got a three dollar t-shirt from Michael's, it was a jersey knit so it was just what I was looking for.

Probably wouldn't wear it with just a tank, probably would look really sweet with a blazer or black dress. But there you have it! Another awesome craft, I need to get more supplies so I can make one for myself because I absolutely adore it!

I'm pretty much always trying to think of a new way to save money. I've tried researching the whole couponing thing but I can not for the life of me get into it. Right now we spend about $100 a week on groceries. Sometimes less. I try to stock up on things when we have extra money so every week we spend just about $100 and that's for just the two of us. So I've been thinking about buying in bulk. We just picked up a shelf for the basement so we have somewhere to put all this extra stuff. (Picked a four-shelf unit for just $20 at Wal-Mart, pretty decent) So far Ive gathered a list of the things that don't go bad, what stores are good, things to pay attention to to see if you really are in fact getting a good deal and all that stuff. We'll start at the end of the week and see how that goes. I would just like to limit how often I have to go to the store because hanging out at Wal-Mart on a Saturday or Sunday isn't really my idea of a good time.

Whew, so many thoughts. It really feels good to get it all out and feels even more amazing to know that people are reading this thing. Some of my family has told me how much they like reading it & I've gotten comments on my crafts. It's so fun! It's so fun to see the views go up and up. I think everyone should start a blog, it will be nice to look back on my journey! Until next time then!
